Alum Spotlight: Michael Truex MBA '19
Employer: Avista
Spotlight On: Purpose and Professional Development
Michael Truex MBA '19 doesn't pass up a chance for learning, professional development or personal growth. As a board member for the Whitworth MBA Alumni Society, a committee member for the Spokane Emerging Leaders Society, and a community leader to many, Truex invests in positive change wherever he finds need. And Truex chose Whitworth to invest in himself.
"The Whitworth MBA program places such a profound emphasis on the personal development of each student and their vocation," Truex says. "The program works hard to make sure that all students grow further into the best versions of themselves."
Truex's first experience in the Whitworth MBA program was to take a hard look at his "best self" on the Sun Valley excursion, a weeklong immersive experience diving into the mind of a servant leader.
"The Sun Valley seminar challenged me to think about the trajectory of my life, my goals and desires, and my relationships with those in my sphere of influence," Truex says. "The experience really stirred up the question of purpose and whether I was really living."
In everything he does, Truex leads passionately with purpose, and he seeks out the tools and resources he needs to inspire new leaders with equal passion.
"The MBA's executive coaching experience gave me priceless time with one of the best leaders in the industry," Truex says. "He encouraged me and helped me to further develop my personal leadership style and skills, while gaining a better understanding of big-picture system thinking without losing sight of leading and serving my community, employer and those in my care."
In the Whitworth MBA program, our purpose is to align your passion with opportunity.
