Arrival, Orientation & Resources for New Students

Greetings from Whitworth University! Please see below for important reminders about your upcoming arrival and the fall 2024 international orientation program:

Arrival Information

  • Monday, Aug. 26, is the designated arrival date for international students starting in Fall Term 2024. If you arrive earlier than Aug. 26, you will not be able to move into your campus housing, and you will therefore be responsible for your own hotel/housing. You can find local hotel recommendations for yourself and/or visiting family here.
  • Please keep our office updated if your flight information has changed or if you have not yet reported your full flight itinerary to us. Please send this information to: iss@whitworth.edu.

Airport Pickup

  • For students arriving on the designated arrival day ONLY (Aug. 26), Whitworth will provide airport pickup and transfer to campus. Please notify us of your flight information as soon as possible (include dates, flight numbers, airline names and arrival time).
  • Airport pickup will be provided using university vehicles. You will be able to store your luggage in the vehicle. We will be arranging pickup times according to when groups of students will arrive. Depending upon your arrival time, you may need to wait in the airport until the next designated pickup time. We will inform you of these pickup times soon.
  • If there are changes to your flight or we are unable to provide pickup at the airport, we will provide you with instructions on how to travel to the Whitworth campus via local transit (Uber, taxi).

Moving In: How to Get Your Room Key

If you arrive on the designated arrival date (Aug. 26):

  • Upon arrival to campus, you will receive the key to your residence hall room.
  • Bedding and linens will NOT be provided (*except for exchange students). All non-exchange international students are recommended to purchase the following bedding items: pillow, twin-size fitted bed sheet, twin-size bed sheet, twin-size mattress cover, blanket, bath towel.
    • We strongly recommend that you order these items online and have them shipped to Whitworth ahead of your arrival. Please ensure that your name is listed on the shipping address as follows: "Your Name Here", 300 W. Hawthorne Road, Hendrick Hall International Office, Spokane, WA 99251

If you arrive after the designated arrival date (Aug. 26) OR late in the evening on Aug. 26:

  • You will be assisted with moving into your residence hall room by resident assistant staff from the Whitworth Housing Office. More details about this process will be forthcoming and sent to all students who expect to have a late-night arrival time.
  • You will need your student ID card in order to enter your residence hall. You can get your ID card Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the student life office on the second floor of the Hixson Union Building (HUB). If you are locked out of your room/building, you must call campus security (+1 509-777-4444).

International Orientation

International Orientation will be held Aug. 27-30. Classes will begin on Sep. 4, 2024. The orientation program will include sessions related to academic preparation, cultural adjustment, student success, opportunities for shopping at local stores, banking, and various games. A full orientation program will be provided to new students within two weeks of the arrival dates.

International Student Insurance

Whitworth University policy requires all international students to be covered by the international student health insurance plan. This health insurance plan is provided by Total Scholastic Solutions (TSS) and under the United Healthcare provider. Students will be automatically enrolled in this insurance plan, and the cost of the insurance will be charged to your Whitworth student account. More information about the insurance plan and coverage will be provided during the international orientation program.
