Healthcare Services

Whitworth University Health Services is here to support your healthcare needs right on campus. We provide high-quality healthcare, focused on the well-being of the whole person. 
 
Our expert staff of college health providers, nurses and other healthcare professionals help diagnose and treat illnesses, injuries, and provide preventive care and education to keep you moving toward your educational goals. Our providers understand the needs of students and partner with them for their personalized healthcare.

  • General Healthcare Services

    • Illness and injury
      Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries.
    • Well-being, preventive care and health promotion
      Physical exams, screenings, vaccinations, nutrition resources, well-being education.
    • Infectious disease
      Diagnosis and treatment of common infectious diseases.
    • Sexual and reproductive health
      Well-person exams; contraceptive services; breast health; sexually transmitted infection screening, testing and treatment.
    • Mental Health
      Diagnosis and treatment of common mental health conditions; mental health screenings for anxiety, depression; concerns around eating and body image; referral to mental health counselors.
    • Additional Services
      • Prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, medical supplies
      • Off-campus referrals to specialty care
      • On-campus referrals to academic and other support services
      • Nutrition support in partnership with Sodexo (on-campus food services)
  • Registered Nurse Triage Care

    Care provided by registered nurses to assess urgent healthcare concerns, provide education and support transition to appropriate resources when needed, both on and off campus.

  • Healthcare Navigation (Billing, Insurance, Resources)

    Support provided for:

    • Billing information (Note: Most services provided at health services on campus are covered under the Wellness Fee, and students incur no charge for visits. Any charges for costs not covered are billed to the student account.)
    • Filing insurance claims
    • Requests for medical records
    • Accessing available services on campus and in the local Spokane community
    • Claims support for the Student Accident Insurance Plan
  • Referrals to Specialty Care

    On occasion, students require referrals to local specialists. Whitworth University Health Services can provide students with a direct referral after assessing their needs or provide a list of local providers. Students are responsible to confirm insurance coverage with these providers before seeking care.
     
    If transportation is needed for off-campus appointments, students can utilize the Pirate Health Ride Program for non-emergency visits.

  • Travel Health

    Travel health visits are required for all off-campus programs to support preparedness for healthy travel. Visits include pre-travel screenings, access to vaccinations, referrals to off-campus healthcare providers when needed, and education for students in national and international off-campus programs. The cost of travel health visits is billed to the student account. 

  • After-Hours Care

    For healthcare services offered after Whitworth University Health Services' regular business hours, please click on the After-Hours Care link.
     
    If transportation is needed for off-campus appointments, students can utilize the Pirate Health Ride Program for non-emergency visits.

  • Self-Care Store

    For convenient access to self-care, a number of low-cost over-the-counter medications are available for purchase at Whitworth University Health Services on campus. Students can purchase these items during our regular business hours.

  • Crutch and Wheelchair Rental

    Students can rent crutches and wheelchairs from Whitworth University Health Services when they are injured and require these assistive devices. Crutches require a $40 deposit, and wheelchairs require a $250 deposit. Charges are billed to the student account. If the equipment is returned in good condition, the deposit will be fully refunded. 
     
    Wheelchairs can also be rented for student family members in special circumstances, such as during graduation events. For these instances, the same rental policy applies.

    Care for the following health concerns is unable to be provided through Whitworth University Health Services.

    • Injuries sustained through intercollegiate sports activities 
      Refer to Whitworth University Sports Medicine/Athletic Training.
    • Injury from a motor vehicle accident 
      Seek care at an urgent care facility or emergency department as indicated.
    • Injury on the job 
      Seek care at an urgent care facility, emergency department or occupational medicine facility as indicated. Report any on-campus work related injuries to Whitworth University Human Resource Services.
    • Injury in the classroom, laboratory, research or internship setting
      Seek care at an urgent care facility, emergency department or occupational medicine facility as indicated. Report any on-campus related injuries to Whitworth University Human Resource Services
