Pirate Health Ride Program

The Pirate Health Ride Program, through Whitworth University Health Services and Lyft, provides transportation for Whitworth University students to and from local healthcare facilities. This service is NOT for life-threatening medical emergencies. If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

  • Where will the Pirate Health Ride take me?

    The Pirate Health Ride Program will take you to the following:

    • Local health care provider offices
    • Urgent care centers
    • Emergency rooms (for non-life threatening illness/injury)
    • Local pharmacies
    • Other healthcare services
  • Who operates the Pirate Health Ride Program?

    Whitworth University Health Services in partnership with Lyft.

  • When is the Pirate Health Ride Program available?

    • 24 hours a day
    • 7 days a week
    • Throughout the academic year (not available in summer months)
  • How do I schedule a Pirate Health Ride during business hours?

    Call Whitworth University Health Services during regular business hours at 509.777.3259.

  • How do I schedule a ride after health services' regular business hours?

    If a health services staff member is unavailable during business hours, or if it is after-hours, students may schedule their own Lyft ride.

    • Install the Lyft app on your cell phone to schedule a ride.
    • Order a Lyft ride.
    • Provide a detailed description of your pick-up and drop-off locations for the Lyft driver.
    • Keep the Lyft receipt for your round-trip service to the healthcare facility off campus.
    • The student will be responsible for the charges at the time of service but can request reimbursement through Whitworth Health Services at 509.777.3259 or healthservices@whitworth.edu.
  • How is a Pirate Health Ride paid?

    During regular health services hours, students may call 509.777.3259 to request a health ride with Lyft. The ride can be authorized with no charge to the student. Charges will be billed to health services.

  • If I scheduled my own ride, can I get it reimbursed?

    If a health services staff member is unavailable, or if it is after hours, students may choose to schedule their own Pirate Health Ride. You can be reimbursed the cost of the ride by following the steps below.

    • Keep your Lyft receipt for travel to and from the healthcare facility off campus.
    • Email a copy of your Lyft receipt to the health services email address (healthservices@whitworth.edu).
    • Provide your ride location and purpose in the email. (e.g., Providence Urgent Care on Hawthorne Road for medical appointment, Safeway Pharmacy on Nevada for prescription pickup, etc.).
    • Do not include confidential or sensitive personal health information in the email.

    Your Pirate Health Ride information will be reviewed for appropriate usage, and your student account will be credited the cost of the ride.

  • What if I have a regularly scheduled healthcare appointment?

    • Rides to scheduled healthcare appointments and facilities may be requested in advance, depending on the distance, location and frequency. Students are strongly encouraged to request a ride reservation before the end of the business day on the day prior to a scheduled appointment. 
    • To request a ride, call Whitworth University Health Services during regular business hours at 509.777.3259.
