Academic Internship & Field Study Course Registration Checklist
- Accept offer
- Develop/update your résumé, tailoring it to the internship description.
- Apply.
- Interview.
- Accept an internship offer.
- Request approval
- Read the Academic Internship Program Guide.
- Identify a faculty internship advisor within your academic discipline.
- Propose internship to faculty internship advisor and request approval to register for an internship course.
- If you are an international student, you must meet with the Whitworth Office of International Education before starting an internship contract form.
- Meet with your faculty internship advisor to discuss and develop the internship contract.
- Complete forms
- Fill out the Internship Contract Form with the information from your meeting with your faculty internship advisor. Toward the end of filling out your contract, you will be prompted to read and agree to the risk assessment and liability waiver.
- If you are participating in an independent international (outside of the United States) academic internship or field study, not through a Whitworth-sponsored program, review the Guidance for Students Seeking an Independent International Internship.
- Obtain required e-signatures of approval
- Submit the online Internship Form and an automated email will be sent to your internship worksite supervisor, your faculty advisor, and if applicable to the international education center and/or honors program for approval in the form of electronic signature.
- If your internship worksite supervisor does not have access to email, contact internships@whitworth.edu to discuss alternative options.
- Final review by the Whitworth Career Center
- Once all e-signatures have been obtained, the career center will conduct a final review of the contract and provide a signature. The career center will submit the finalized internship contract to the registrar's office for course registration, notifying the student once doing so.
During your internship, record your hours and activities worked on the Internship Time Log. Keep in mind, at the end of the internship, your internship worksite supervisor will need to review the time log and agree to the hours and activities worked by signing all pages of the time log.
