Favorite Quote: "There is a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in." -Leonard Cohen
Favorite Activities in Spokane: I marvel at the fact that I can drive five minutes from my home and hike in the lower mountains, or travel just 30 minutes to sit on the beach for a summer afternoon (there are close to 300 lakes in the area!) Living in Spokane, one can enjoy the very best of both worlds – outdoor activities and the urban life.
Favorite Thing about Whitworth: There is such a sense of calm when walking around the Whitworth campus. The people you meet are friendly, helpful and happy. Of course, there are stressful moments – it's a college campus! But overall, one feels the camaraderie, support and sense of community. Whitworth is an amazing place to learn and grow.
Advice for Whitworth Applicants: Be brave enough to trust the unfamiliar. Hidden gems and unique, precious opportunities can be found when you explore outside of your comfort zone. This could apply to trying a new dish, or traveling to a city that you may not readily find on a map (hint: Spokane, Wash.). When you allow yourself to follow your instincts, incredible things happen.
Free-for-All: I feel at home in a place where I am surrounded by people speaking many different languages. For example, a busy Parisian café or a sidewalk in Manhattan or a university campus! Some of my favorite things include reading about ancient history, long walks in the Italian countryside, Vietnamese iced coffee and watching the snow fall.
