Demand for engineers is at an all-time high. "According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the engineering profession needs to grow by 15% to meet increasing demand and to replace retiring baby boomers. A shortfall could jeopardize the health of the American economy." (Professional Engineer magazine, Spring 2021.)
Because of the compelling nature of engineers' work, Whitworth is experiencing growth in the number of incoming students who declare engineering as their major. Demand for engineers, coupled with Whitworth's trajectory of growth, points to the need for more classroom, lab and office space. In fact, by academic year 2024, the program will be at capacity unless the university creates more space for incoming classes of engineering students.
"Among all engineers, the average job growth rate projected between 2020 and 2030 is 7%, with a median salary in 2020 being $96,310, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics." (U.S. News & World Report, March 2022)
