Media Writing & Production Talent Scholarships
The Whitworth University Communication Studies Department offers Media Writing & Production Talent Scholarships to new/incoming and returning Whitworth students who have an interest in communication/media and demonstrate potential to excel as student communicators during their time at Whitworth.
New/Incoming Student Application
Application Process
- Applicants be admitted to Whitworth and submit the following items for review:
- Three published samples (including writing, video, audio or photography work) from your school newspaper, yearbook or other published sources, or three samples of any writing (500 words or fewer each). You may submit these samples as Word documents or PDF files, or you may upload the URLs of samples that are accessible online.
- A one-page letter describing your interest in communication/media.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
- Be admitted to Whitworth University.
- Be actively considering majoring in communication.
- Be enrolled in either the university newspaper (The Whitworthian), the radio station (Whitworth Radio) and/or the public relations agency (Beyond the Pines) throughout their first year.
Returning Student Application
Application Process
- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and submit the following items for review:
- Three samples of work created for distribution to the public through such outlets as The Whitworthian, Whitworth.fm or other course websites. Students may submit writing samples or links to video, photography or audio samples of their work. Students interested in public relations may submit writing samples, graphic or website design, video, or samples from a developed social media campaign.
- A one-page letter describing your interest in communication/media.

Scholarship Guidelines/Requirements
- Recipients are expected to be enrolled in either The Whitworthian, Whitworth Radio or Beyond the Pines throughout the following academic year.
- Students must meet eligibility requirements established by the financial aid office and must be full-time students in good academic standing.
- Students will receive the talent scholarships in two installments; half will be credited to their accounts in the fall and the other half to their accounts in the spring.
- Only communication majors are eligible for these scholarships.
