Jones and his undergraduate research assistant David Olmsted, '04, co-presented a paper, "Genetic Design of Biologically Inspired Discrete Dynamical Basis Networks to Approximate Data Sequences," at the Congress on Evolutionary Computation, in Canberra, Australia (Dec. 2003).

Co-author of, "Preparing for a Vocation in Math and Computer Science: Collected Student papers from MA294/CS295, Whitworth Math/CS Dept." (2010).

Presentations include: "Wild and Crazy Machine Learning: Computational Networks that Fight for the Right to Make Baby Computational Networks," at the Eastern Washington University Dept. of Computer Science Colloquium (2010); co-presented, "Oh! treacherous Celiac, can machine learning vanquish thee?" at Jawaharlal Nehru University, School of Information Technology, New Delhi, India (2010) and at Pune University Bioinformatics Centre, Pune, Maharastra, India (2010); co-presented "A New Method for Implementing Fuzzy Retrieval from a Spatial Database" at the Joint Conference on Information Sciences (1995); co-presented "An Engineering Design Process Supported by Knowledge Retrieval from Spatial Database" at the Second IEEE International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (1996); software consultant for McDonald's Corp. (1990-91); software engineer for Boeing Commercial Airplane Company (1987-90).

Continuing work on the development of new medical technology applications: Jones and two collaborators received a $15,000 grant from the Brain Child Foundation to develop a prototype endoscopic guidance system for neurosurgery (2000). Received a $4,439 grant from Xilinx Corp. to purchase hardware and software (2001).

Co-organized the inaugural Future Potential in Computing outreach seminar aimed at attracting local area high-school students into the field of computing (2007). Site director for the annual Intercollegiate Pacific Northwest Regional Programming Competition sponsored by IBM and put on by the Association of Computing Machinery, ACM (2007); serves as a judge and problem writer for the ACM Intercollegiate Pacific Northwest Programming Competition (2000-present).
