Played every football position
From an early age, William was well educated. As a young boy, he attended Sitka Training School, and then Carlyle Indian School, a place where natives were taught how to act more “white." After this, he made his way to Whitworth College, which was located in Tacoma. After graduating from Whitworth in 1909, he spent one term at the San Francisco Theological Seminary, and read law in a law office. Following this, he was admitted to the bar to practice law in Alaska.
