The Case of the Purloined Pillow
The Case of the Purloined Pillow
Unfortunately, not all events were very easy to prepare for. While those planning the Green Derby were focused on the details of decoration and menu, casual gatherings such as the annual Open Dorm were slightly more involved. On this evening students were allowed to visit their class-mates dormitory rooms, a location otherwise closed to those of the opposite gender. On one particular occasion the men of McMillian Hall hosted the ladies of Ballard Hall. Preparation for this event included a tasty snack, some light-hearted entertainment, and an extensive network of under-cover security guards, for after the entertainment, Ballard ladies were invited to inspect the rooms. The Whitworthian wrote of this inspection, "It was a big event for the men, but a bigger still for the women. It was their one opportunity to collect souvenirs. As collectors, the women are very, very efficient. They purloined everything from pillows to goldfishes."
