A Sizzling Good Time
A Sizzling Good Time
As the caption from this Whitworthian photo indicates, two prominent student clubs, the "W" club and the Pirettes, were busy scheming up a good time for the fourth annual Green Derby. This issue of Whitworth’s student newspaper declared the campus a "frying-pan of sizzling entertainment." Green Derby, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in all its verdant glory, was a night filled with local talent. Performers from the college and the surrounding community would offer their viewers a taste of ventriloquism and prestidigitation, musical talent in both voice and instrument, and demonstrations in fencing and tumbling. Though it only last from 1933 to 1936, it is clear this social activity met with student approval, for it was declared in the student newspaper, "Perhaps never in the history of Whitworth has there been such an extensive and entertaining variety program as the Green Derby."
