Christian Students from Around the World
Here is Janie Ko dressed in a typical Chinese informal dress, reading her Bible. Many of the international students who came during this time were God-fearing Christians, who not only sought an education, but also wanted to grow in their spiritual life. Ko and other Cosmopolitan members had the opportunity to share with the Whitworth community how their culture worships God through the club’s semi-annual organization of chapel. Moreover, Ko, a pre-medicine major, also participated actively in Phi Alpha, a scholastic honorary, and the Pre-Med and Cosmopolitan Club. In her senior year in 1955, she served as the dorm president of the newly opened Warren Hall.
