The Tradition Begins: 1948-1950
The first Snow Frolic was held on January 27, 1948. Professors released students from classes at 10 a.m., so everyone in the Whitworth community could drive up to Mt. Spokane and enjoy a day of winter fun. Activities such as skiing, sleighing, drinking hot chocolate in the lodge, and watching the coronation of the Snow Frolic King and Queen were popular. The students’ responses to the event were so positive the event became an annual tradition.
