Anticipated graduation year: 2013
Major: Music Performance
Hometown: Spokane, Wash.
Whitworth activities/clubs: Small group leader, Hosanna, jazz band, jazz combo, wind symphony, percussion ensemble
Favorite book: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey
Favorite music: Big Band Jazz J But I like almost all music.
Favorite movie: The Court Jester
Favorite thing about Whitworth: The girl-to-guy ratio. Just kidding. I actually really enjoy the quality of the other students.
Best class: Percussion Ensemble because we get to play drums for an hour and because there is a lot of laughing going on.
I like my major because... my homework is to play music! Can't get much better than that.
Why I chose to attend Whitworth: I chose Whitworth above the six or seven other schools I applied to because of the amount of scholarship money I received and the quality of education that was being offered. Initially, I thought that Whitworth would be too expensive for me. However, the amount of scholarship money from Whitworth was so great that it would have cost me just as much to go to a state college. Figuring I would get a more rounded education at Whitworth, I chose to enroll here.
Advice for incoming students: Find some way to organize your schedule. It can be overwhelming at first to try to successfully manage things like how much time you have for lunch and what time all your classes are. Using things like an online calendar, day planner or even your cell phone helps keep things manageable.
What I plan to do after graduation: I would love to be able to earn both a master's degree and a Ph.D. It would also be a dream come true to attend a school like Eastman School of Music or North Texas following my time at Whitworth. My end goal though is to be a music professor who performs on the side.
