What to Bring to Whitworth

We're glad you will be a part of our community. Following are lists of items you'll need to bring to Whitworth along with items you may want to bring with you when you arrive on campus. Additionally, please read What's Provided for information about what is already in your room and What Not to Bring, which details items not allowed in the residence halls.

Items you will need to bring:

  • Pillow, pillowcase, and extra-long bed linens in all buildings (except in some Village beds)
  • Bathroom towels
  • Hand-soap and shampoo
  • Shower caddy
  • Wastebasket
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Laundry soap
  • Laundry basket
  • Cooking utensils
  • Clothes hangers
  • Flashlight in case of a power outage. (Use of candles is not permitted in the residence halls.)
  • Surge protectors/power strips. (The university strongly discourages students from using extension cords of any gauge, but if used should be at least 14 gauge or thicker)
  • Sticky-tac/Plasti-tac, pushpins, or blue masking tape (painter's tape) for hanging items on the walls and ceiling, but not on any wooden or wallpapered surface. (Nails and screws of any size, foam tape or mounting squares, Scotch tape, masking tape, electrical tape, duct tape, filament tape, packaging tape, double-sided tape, hot glue, plastic stars, stickers with adhesive, and staples are not allowed for use on the walls, ceilings, floors, or any university-owned furniture.)

Items you may want to bring:

  • Small microwave
  • Small refrigerator
  • Additional lighting. (Halogens are not allowed due to fire danger.)
  • Coffeepot
  • TV and VCR or DVD player
  • Personal computer and ethernet cable, approx 25 feet. (Each resident has free access to e-mail and Internet services.)
  • Small box, floor, or table fan
  • Area rug or carpet (View the floor plans for your building.)
  • U-Lock for your bicycle (a chain or cable lock are good but not good enough)
  • Answering machine (if you do not have a cell phone)
