Mitchell Carver

What year did you graduate from Whitworth's MIT? 2010.

What and where do you teach? I teach Freshman Seminar – a skills-based college/career readiness course that every ninth-grader has to take, at Al Raby School for Community and Environment, East Garfield Park, Chicago.

Describe your greatest joy as a teacher. Building rapport with students and colleagues, and breaking down the walls we can all put up, so that we can be more relational and collaborative.

How did Whitworth prepare you to meet the needs of your students and to enjoy your work? Whitworth equipped me (even if I don't do it perfectly) to manage a classroom with a broad range of needs, to be sufficiently prepared in unit- and lesson-planning, and to understand the socio-emotional needs of students and the part I play within that issue.
