Community Outreach

An important part of the Center for Gifted Education’s mission is to partner with the community to provide opportunities for, and a public understanding of, gifted youth. To that end, the Center for Gifted Education & Professional Development hosts and co-sponsors several events for the Greater Spokane community.

Writing Rally
The Whitworth University Writing Rally is a family literacy initiative for students in pre-school through 6th grade. The event features a presentation by a well-known children's author, followed by a time for participants to work with area teachers or Whitworth education students to create an original illustrated book by hand or with a computer.
For additional information and to register, please visit http://www.whitworth.edu/writingrally.

Campers spend the morning as a group in interactive sessions that include relaxation techniques, leadership development,  team building, communication and social skill growth.  In the afternoon, students participate in workshops of their choice and immerse themselves in academic exploration. Afternoon workshops are taught by faculty with experience, in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm in the particular subject area.
