Why Whitworth? Why Now?
I wanted to pursue a degree that would complement the leadership experience I acquired in my 20-year Air Force career. The Master of Education in Administrative Leadership degree was exactly what I was looking for. I attended college on the GI Bill and had my choice of attending any nearby school or online program. I chose Whitworth because of its excellent academic reputation and small class sizes.
Best book you've ever read
Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
What's been the best part so far about attending graduate school at Whitworth?
I've met many wonderful new friends and colleagues in my classes. The teachers and staff in my program were absolutely first-rate. They were always very accessible, which was very important to me.
The In-laws: the original version with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I'm a retired USAF officer and I've already traveled quite a bit, but I'd love to tour Germany someday.
Where do you work?
I'm executive director of Mission Community Outreach Center, a small nonprofit clothing bank and infant care center. Check us out at www.4mission.org.
What else do you have to balance in life while pursuing academic study?
I enjoy spending time with my family and I'm also active in my church.
We'd be surprised to know... I have a twin brother named Kevin. We're turning 50 together this spring.
Advice for other adults considering Whitworth's evening graduate school
Do your homework. Check out other programs and seek advice from others who've been through the program that interests you. Whitworth University was an excellent choice for me. My educational experience here exceeded even my own very high expectations.
If you were able to say a few words at a Whitworth graduation, what would they be?
When I applied for admission to Whitworth University, I thought "An Education of Mind and Heart" was a clever slogan. As a graduate, I now realize that "An Education of Mind and Heart" is an educational philosophy that is embraced by every Whitworth educator, staff member and student. I get a special feeling when I reflect on my time as a graduate student here. I am extraordinarily happy that I chose Whitworth University!
